I am a film student, I go to a community college now but am hoping to transfer to Chapman University as a Film and Television Production major with an emphasis on directing!
I love film and TV so much and I only recently found out how much I enjoy filmmaking. When I started college I didn't know what I wanted to do, I picked film as a major because I have a lot of experience as an actor and I felt like it would let me dip my toes into all of the subjects I was interested in, like art and music.
For a while I wanted to major in writing for television but I recently found that I love directing even more. It's impossible to say whether or not this is the field I like best in a few years but I am excited to learn regardless!
But I'm a Cheerleader is a 1999 American satirical teen romantic comedy directed by Jamie Babbit. It is colorful and funny and campy and wonderful! If you havent seen it, GO WATCH IT NOW!! If you have seen it, GO WATCH IT AGAIN!!!
One of my favorite things about But I'm a Cheerleader is the colors! The colors are the most striking thing about the film. Everything is colorcoded and it looks AWESOME!
For example, the beginning of the film is entirely brown. The cars are brown, the houses are brown, the inside of the houses are brown, and the clothes that everyone wears is brown. There are three notable exeptions here. Megan, the main character, Mike, and the cheerleader outfits all stand out. Megan wears yellow, Mike wears blue, and the cheerleader outfits are bright orange. Not only does this use of color make everything feel cohesive, it also makes what doesnt match stand out. This trend continues throughout the film, highlighting the absurdity of conversion camps and of gender norms.
Not to mention the fact that this movie is hilarious! I can't even verbalize how much I love the humor in this film. GO WATCH IT and you can see for yourself!
The exagerated behaviors of some characters and the wacky tone is balanced out by the sincere and heartfelt moments between Megan and Graham. It makes even the most ridiculous parts of this movie feel real.
